Mentor Notes #133 - The thing you’re tired of… might be your superpower

Mentor Note #133

Mentor Note:

"The thing that keeps repeating… might be your superpower" - Sally Polihronas

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

The past few weeks I have seen this pattern, over and over again.

In my own life, in the creatives I've work with and in particular women stepping into their next level so I just had to share it here with you, because you may have noticed it too.

It's that moment where something repeats and we assume we’ve done something wrong.

The same challenge shows up.
The same edge gets activated.
The same lesson seems to circle back.

And the instinct is to think:

“I thought I already worked through this.”

But here’s what I know now,

Repetition isn’t a sign that you’re stuck.
It’s a sign that something important is being built.

We’ve been so conditioned to believe that growth is linear and that once you’ve “learned the lesson,” you move on… and never have to deal with it again. (Ah hello, it's going to come at you full force, especially if you are ready for big change.)

But real growth doesn’t work like that, because real growth is layered.

It brings you back to the same place sometimes, not because you failed, because you’re ready to meet it with a deeper level of awareness, capacity, and self-trust.

Because there’s a difference between understanding something… and embodying it.

And embodiment takes repetition and asks you to return to the same moment, and choose a new response.

To hold the boundary, to use your voice, and to trust yourself, even when it would be easier not to.

And this is where your power is built.

I can feel this in my own life right now.

Stepping back into this reunion, there are moments that feel familiar, but I’m not the same woman meeting them.

And that’s the work.

Pausing in those moments… and choosing to respond as the woman I am now, not who I was back then.

So when something shows up again, instead of asking, “Why am I here again?”

Try asking: “What is this strengthening in me?”

Because the things that repeat in your life… are rarely there by accident.

They’re shaping, refining and preparing you for what’s next.

Your superpower is being built in the places that ask the most of you.

The Takeaway

Repetition isn’t regression, it’s refinement.

Something to Try

Notice what’s returning and instead of resisting it, meet it with intention.

Even slightly differently than before, because this isn’t holding you back.

This is building you.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

I've had a great break in the Gold Coast with my family and it's been nice to slow down. I have to admit, I've been very chill and the contrast of life prior to this holiday and now has definitely got me thinking. We often think we’re burnt out or that we’ve done too much, given too much, pushed too...

Hello Reader, There are moments in life when you revisit something from your past. A place, a role, a version of yourself and suddenly you see it all with new eyes. As you know in my last few emails, I found myself stepping back into a space that once held so much momentum in my life - being a performer. As I sat and reflected, days and weeks later,...

Hello Reader, After being back on stage recently, something struck me again. The contrast. Performing is electric, fast, loud and energised. Lights, sound, adrenaline, connection - everything moves quickly and intensely. There’s a heightened aliveness to it, and then… you return to normal life. School drop-offs, emails, grocery shopping, writing at the kitchen table and...
