Mentor Notes #132 - When You Go Back and Realise You Were Right

Mentor Note #132

Mentor Note:

“Time has a way of revealing the wisdom behind the choices we once questioned.” - Sally Polihronas

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

There are moments in life when you revisit something from your past.

A place, a role, a version of yourself and suddenly you see it all with new eyes.

As you know in my last few emails, I found myself stepping back into a space that once held so much momentum in my life - being a performer.

As I sat and reflected, days and weeks later, it's only normal and healthy to ask a few questions.

Did I step away too soon?
Did I make the right choice back then?
What would life have looked like if I’d stayed on that path?

These thoughts can surface when you return to something that once defined a chapter of your identity. Oh boy, did it define mine. 😉

But I realised quickly that I wasn't the same person anymore. I'm someone who has lived a full life, gathered wisdom, and walked an entirely different path. And from that vantage point, something becomes very clear.

The version of me who made those decisions… knew exactly what she was doing.

When we make big life choices, we rarely receive immediate confirmation that they were the “right” ones.

We move forward guided by instinct, circumstance, values, and sometimes simply by a quiet inner knowing that says, this direction feels true.

But doubt has a way of revisiting us later, especially when we look back at paths we didn’t continue down.

Sometimes the only way to truly understand the wisdom of our past decisions is to return, briefly - to the environments that once shaped them.

To stand there again and realise:

You didn’t walk away because you failed.

You walked away because your life was meant to grow in a different direction.

And that growth has led you somewhere meaningful.

The Takeaway

If you’ve ever questioned a decision you made in your life, remember this:

The person you were at that time made the best decision you could with the awareness you had.

Your choices weren’t mistakes, they were turning points.

And when you revisit pieces of your past with fresh eyes, you don’t return as the same person.

You return as someone who can finally see the full picture.

Something to Try

Think about a decision in your life that you’ve occasionally second-guessed.

Maybe you left something behind, chose a different path or prioritised something that others didn’t understand.

Now ask yourself:

• What did that decision allow me to build in my life?
• What experiences would I never have had if I hadn’t chosen that path?
• Who have I become because of it?

Sometimes looking back isn’t about regret, sometimes it’s about recognising the quiet wisdom you had all along.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

I've had a great break in the Gold Coast with my family and it's been nice to slow down. I have to admit, I've been very chill and the contrast of life prior to this holiday and now has definitely got me thinking. We often think we’re burnt out or that we’ve done too much, given too much, pushed too...

Mentor Note #133 Mentor Note: "The thing that keeps repeating… might be your superpower" - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, The past few weeks I have seen this pattern, over and over again. In my own life, in the creatives I've work with and in particular women stepping into their next level so I just had to share it here with you, because you may have noticed it too. It's that moment where something repeats and we assume we’ve done something wrong. The same challenge shows...

Mentor Note #131 Mentor Note: “Life is lived in the quiet moments between the applause.” - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, After being back on stage recently, something struck me again. The contrast. Performing is electric, fast, loud and energised. Lights, sound, adrenaline, connection - everything moves quickly and intensely. There’s a heightened aliveness to it, and then… you return to normal life. School drop-offs, emails, grocery shopping, writing at the kitchen table and...
