Mentor Notes #148 - What if life doesn't have to be so hard?

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

For much of my life, I believed that if I just worked harder, pushed further, or held on tighter, everything would eventually fall into place. Looking back now, I can see how deeply I equated struggle with progress. If something wasn't difficult, I wondered if it was even worthwhile.

But life has a funny way of teaching us otherwise.

Some of the most meaningful moments in my life haven't arrived after forcing them into existence. They came after I stopped gripping so tightly.

Not because I stopped caring, but because I finally trusted.

Surrender is one of those words that can make people uncomfortable. It sounds passive, almost like giving up. Yet I don't believe that's what this quote is asking of us.

It's inviting you to loosen your grip on the things you can't control.

To stop believing that every answer has to be fought for and to recognise that there is a difference between committed effort and exhausting resistance.

As creatives and as humans in general we are often conditioned to think that struggle is proof we're doing something important. Some wear busyness as a badge of honour. They search for the next strategy, the next breakthrough, the next thing that will finally make them feel ready.

But perhaps life isn't asking us to strive harder.

Perhaps it's asking us to trust more deeply.

I've noticed that when I'm constantly pushing, I become disconnected from my intuition. I stop noticing opportunities because I'm so focused on making them happen.

Yet when I soften, slow down, and create space, life has an incredible way of meeting me with exactly what I need.

Not always what I expected and quite often it's something far better.

Maybe surrender isn't the absence of action, maybe it's taking action without carrying the weight of needing to control the outcome.

The Takeaway

There is wisdom in knowing when to push and when to pause and not every closed door needs to be forced open.

Not every unanswered question needs solving today.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is trust yourself enough to release the pressure you're carrying.

Life doesn't always respond to the loudest effort, sometimes it responds to the quiet confidence that says,

"I'm willing to do my part... and then let life meet me where it 's meant to."

Something to Try

This week, notice where you're gripping too tightly.

Is there a decision you're trying to force?

A relationship you're trying to control?

A career move you're obsessing over?

Instead of asking yourself,

"What else do I need to do?"

Ask,

"What would it look like to trust here?"

It might mean taking one small step and allowing the rest to unfold.

Or it might simply mean giving yourself permission to stop carrying something that was never yours to control.

You may discover that surrender isn't about losing your power.

It's about making space for life to surprise you.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

Hello Reader, By the time you read this, I'll be home. The suitcases will probably still be sitting in the hallway, there'll be washing to do, and before long, life will gently start asking me to step back into a familiar every day rhythm. I always find this part of travelling fascinating. We spend so much time...

Hello Reader, I turned 50 yesterday, crazy, I saw my card and thought, wow, I feel like I’m younger. It’s like the soul has an age because I always feel like I’m in my 20-30’s. Even saying I turned 50 feels a little surreal, not because of the number itself, but because of what I thought this age might feel...
