Mentor Notes #147 - Coming Home Is Different Than Leaving

Mentor Note #147

Mentor Note:

“The most important thing you bring home from any journey is the version of yourself you refuse to leave behind.”

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

By the time you read this, I'll be home.

The suitcases will probably still be sitting in the hallway, there'll be washing to do, and before long, life will gently start asking me to step back into a familiar every day rhythm.

I always find this part of travelling fascinating.

We spend so much time dreaming about leaving, planning the adventure and imagining all the places we'll see, yet we rarely talk about what it feels like to come home.

Because coming home isn't just about returning to where you live.

It's about noticing who returns.

Over the past month? I've walked through London after stepping off stage, wandered the streets of Paris, found beauty in places I expected to, and found perspective in places I didn't. I've laughed until I cried with my girls, navigated travel mishaps, missed my dad in his little village, celebrated turning 50, and been reminded more than once that life rarely unfolds the way we imagine.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, life quietly revealed something to me.

Not through one big moment though it was through hundreds of ordinary ones.

It reminded me that who we become is rarely shaped by the postcard moments. More often, it's shaped by how we respond when plans change, when things feel unfamiliar, when expectations fall away, and when we're invited to see life through a different lens.

That's the thing about any meaningful journey.

It doesn't just show you new placed it actually, shows you yourself.

As I unpacked my suitcase today, I've found myself asking a different question.

Not, "What did I bring home?"

But, "What part of me deserves to stay?"

I don't want to leave behind the slower mornings, the presence I felt walking through places without rushing, the laughter that came so easily, or the reminder that connection has very little to do with where you are and everything to do with how you show up.

Those are the souvenirs I want to keep.

Because perhaps that's the real purpose of any season that changes us.

Not simply to experience it.

But to let it become part of how we live once it's over.

The Takeaway

The most meaningful journeys don't end when you arrive home.

They continue in the way you choose to live afterwards.

Something to Try

Think about the season you've just come through.

It doesn't have to be a holiday. It might have been a busy few months, a challenge, a new chapter or a season of change.

Then ask yourself:

What part of who I've become during this season do I want to carry into the next one?

Don't let the lesson stay in the season.

Take it with you.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

Hello Reader, For much of my life, I believed that if I just worked harder, pushed further, or held on tighter, everything would eventually fall into place. Looking back now, I can see how deeply I equated struggle with progress. If something wasn't difficult, I wondered if it was even worthwhile. But life has a funny way of teaching us otherwise....

Hello Reader, I turned 50 yesterday, crazy, I saw my card and thought, wow, I feel like I’m younger. It’s like the soul has an age because I always feel like I’m in my 20-30’s. Even saying I turned 50 feels a little surreal, not because of the number itself, but because of what I thought this age might feel...

Hello Reader, By the time you read this, I've traded beautiful villas, bustling cities, and some of Europe's most breathtaking destinations for my dad's more small town village in Greece.
