Mentor Notes #124 - Why doing more isn’t always working

Mentor Note #124

Mentor Note:

“ Your energy is currency. Spend it well. Invest it wisely.” - Anonymous

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

There’s a lot being said right now about alignment, ease, and releasing the hustle. And while I understand the sentiment, I want to be honest about my lived experience.

Everything meaningful I’ve created in my life came from doing a lot. Stage shows, albums, live events - the work was intense, but it never felt like work, it felt alive and expressive and most importantly it felt like me.

The contrast came later. When I moved into corporate life, the grind felt different. The pressure was heavier, the energy more draining, and most days I didn’t recognise myself in the work I was doing.

Now, running my own small business solo, there’s a new kind of effort required. There’s no team to share the load, no buffer between the ideas and the execution. Some days feel energising and purposeful. Other days feel like pushing uphill while telling myself I should feel more “aligned” about it.

What I’ve come to see - both in myself and in the creatives I mentor - is that many of us are caught between two extremes. We’re visualising, manifesting, and aligning… while simultaneously exhausting ourselves through scattered effort. Or we’re waiting for the magic to arrive, hoping clarity will come before action.

The truth is quieter than both narratives.

Alignment isn’t the absence of effort. It’s discernment.
It’s knowing where your energy actually belongs.

When your energy is spread thin across everything, you stay busy but stuck. When it’s directed with intention, momentum builds. Work starts to feel alive again - not because it’s easy, but because it’s honest.

Energy is your real currency.
Every decision, every task, every place you put your attention has a cost.

When you invest it unconsciously, exhaustion follows.
When you invest it deliberately, effort begins to compound instead of deplete.

The Takeaway

You don’t need to work less.
You need to work with more awareness.

This isn’t about doing nothing and waiting. It’s about choosing what deserves your grit, your focus, and your devotion, and letting the rest fall away.

Something to Try

Today, identify one task that genuinely moves something forward in your creative or business life.
Not the loudest or easiest one - the meaningful one.

Give it your full presence and energy.
Let everything else wait.

Notice how different work feels when your energy leads the way, rather than obligation or pressure.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

Mentor Note #131 Mentor Note: “Life is lived in the quiet moments between the applause.” - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, After being back on stage recently, something struck me again. The contrast. Performing is electric, fast, loud and energised. Lights, sound, adrenaline, connection - everything moves quickly and intensely. There’s a heightened aliveness to it, and then… you return to normal life. School drop-offs, emails, grocery shopping, writing at the kitchen table and...

Mentor Note #130 Mentor Note: "Protect your energy. You get to choose who and what you let in." - Unknown Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, Have you ever walked away from a meeting or encounter thinking, wow! I feel tired or drained. This week reminded me how quickly you can absorb energy that isn’t yours if you’re not paying attention and how it can shape your day without you even realising it. A comment, a vibe, a constant expectation - it’s subtle, but it builds up over time. As creatives, we...

Mentor Note #129 Mentor Note: Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do… is have fun. - Unknown Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, Wow, what a week it's been. If you’ve seen anything online, you’ll know Bardot (4 of us) reunited. There’s been press, buzz, nostalgia. But what you won’t see in the headlines is what it felt like inside my body. It was out-of-body… and deeply embodied all at once. For a moment, I was transported to my 25-year-old self - metallic sparkle, diamante jeans (thanks...
