Mentor Notes #158 - The wisdom hiding in your ordinary life

Mentor Note #158

Mentor Note:

“Your life is always speaking to you. Most of its wisdom arrives in moments too ordinary to be noticed.” - Sally Polihronas

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

Today's quote really is my philsophy for life, and how I have lived my life for many years. Even to the point where many around me think that the deepest wisdom has come from my biggest moments, but in actual fact it's in the ordinary moments where I have learnt the most.

We are taught to look for life-changing answers in extraordinary places.

Right now in the world the amount of information out there is intense. We search through books, podcasts, spiritual teachings, personality systems, signs, experts and people who appear to know something we do not.

There is nothing wrong with seeking guidance. I have spent much of my own life learning, questioning and searching for a deeper understanding of why we are here and who we are becoming.

But I have also started to wonder whether our constant search for answers can sometimes take us further away from ourselves.

Because while you are looking for the revelation, life is quietly revealing you to yourself.

It happens in the conversation that leaves you feeling smaller.

In the task you keep avoiding, despite knowing how much it matters.

In the moment your body tightens before you say yes.

In the relief you feel when a plan is cancelled.

In the idea that continues returning, even after you have tried to dismiss it as unrealistic.

In the way you come alive around certain people, places and possibilities, but disappear around others.

These moments may look ordinary, but they are the most significant.

They are information.

The smallest moments often show us what our minds have become skilled at explaining away. They reveal where we are forcing, where we are settling, what we desire, what we fear and what we already know.

I have spent my early years of self discovery thinking that wisdom was something I needed to acquire.

But I cam to realise quickly and believe much of it is something we learn to notice.

Perhaps the soul does not always arrive through a dramatic awakening. Maybe it meets you while you are making breakfast, driving to school, walking along the beach, sitting at your desk or feeling the same frustration for the 100th time.

It speaks through repetition, discomfort and the moments that make us feel more like yourself and the ones that show you how far away from yourself you have travelled.

The ordinary moment becomes meaningful when you are present enough to receive what it is showing you.

Your life may already be answering the questions you keep asking.

The invitation is to stop rushing past the answer and pay attention.

The Takeaway

You do not need to turn every moment into a lesson or search for a spiritual meaning behind everything that happens.

But you can become more curious about what your everyday life is revealing.

The wisdom may not be outside you or waiting somewhere in your future.

It may be hidden inside the patterns, reactions, desires and quiet moments you are already living.

The ordinary is not separate from your spiritual or creative life.

It is where that life is happening.

If this spoke to you, share it with someone who may need it too.

Something to Try

At the end of each day this week, choose one ordinary moment that stayed with you.

It might be something that irritated you, energised you, softened you or made you pause.

Write down:

What happened?
What did I feel?
What might this moment be showing me?

Do not try to produce a profound answer, just simply notice.

By the end of the week, look back and see whether a pattern has been trying to get your attention.

And I would love to know: What ordinary moment has taught you something important about yourself?

**Hit reply and tell me. I am beginning to explore this idea more deeply, and I would genuinely love to hear what it brings up for you.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

Mentor Note #157 Mentor Note: “You do not need to become worthy of what you are asking for. You may need to become available for it.” - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, Last week I wrote about the ideas that do not leave us, the ones that remain while we grow into the person capable of carrying them. That thought led me back to a teaching from David Ghiyam. He describes prayer as a technology: not simply a way of asking for what we want, but a practice that transforms us and...

Mentor Note #156 Mentor Note: “The inner work was never meant to keep you inside yourself. It was preparing you to step forward differently.” - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, This week I have been thinking a lot about the Book, Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert writes about ideas as living energies that arrive looking for someone willing to bring them into the world. If we do not respond, she suggests they may eventually move on and find another person to carry them. I have always...

Mentor Note #155 Mentor Note: “The inner work was never meant to keep you inside yourself. It was preparing you to step forward differently.” - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, Last week I wrote about the moment when the inner work must become movement. I have stayed with that thought the whole week, and it had me thinking. Knowing it is time to move and understanding what that movement should look like are not always the same thing. We often imagine action as something bold and...
