Mentor Notes #157 - Can you hold what you are asking for?

Mentor Note #157

Mentor Note:

“You do not need to become worthy of what you are asking for. You may need to become available for it.” - Sally Polihronas

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

Last week I wrote about the ideas that do not leave us, the ones that remain while we grow into the person capable of carrying them.

That thought led me back to a teaching from David Ghiyam. He describes prayer as a technology: not simply a way of asking for what we want, but a practice that transforms us and expands our capacity to receive what is already available.

That idea stayed with me.

Most of us pray by focusing on the answer.

We ask for the relationship, opportunity, prosperity, healing, home, creative life or sense of purpose. We wonder when it will arrive and what we need to do to make it happen.

But maybe prayer is also doing something within us.

Maybe, it is not only changing our circumstances, it is strengthening and growing your capacity.

Because receiving something and being able to hold it are not always the same thing.

If your prayer arrived tomorrow, could you hold onto it?

Could you hold prosperity and receive without guilt, fear or immediately giving your power away?

If the relationship appeared, could you accept love without feeling that you had to earn it?

If the spacious life you desire became possible, could you resist filling every empty place with obligation?

If the creative work grew, would you have the boundaries and rhythm required to protect it?

This is not about blaming yourself for what has not yet happened or the delays of manifestation in your life. And it certainly doesn't mean that you are not ready spiritually. Disappointment is not evidence that you have failed to transform enough.

Your Capacity is not your worthiness.

You do not have to improve yourself to deserve love, abundance, opportunity or peace.

But many of the things we ask for, carry weight.

Prosperity asks for leadership, visibility asks for boundaries, love asks for vulnerability and meaningful work asks for consistency. Freedom asks us to become responsible for our choices.

Sometimes we are asking for our life to expand while still trying to remain the same size inside it.

Prayer or meditation can be the place where that expansion begins.

It's a sacred place to strengthen your resolve and how you react internally.

The external answer may not have arrived yet, but something within you may already be changing.

You will know... It's when you have clarity and your boundaries are becoming stronger. Or less willing to abandon what matters and you are learning how to receive without shrinking or playing small and how to hold without the need to control.

Maybe these are the first signs that you are about to receive.

We spend so much time asking when something will arrive and so little time asking who we are becoming so that, when it does, we can allow it to stay.

Prayer does not have to be passive.

We do not force the outcome, we begin strengthening and developing the life that will receive it.

The Takeaway

You are already worthy of what you are asking for.

The deeper question is not, “What must I fix before I deserve it?”

It is:

What is being expanded within me so I can receive this without shrinking, sabotaging it or giving it away?

Sometimes the first answer to a prayer is the capacity being built within you.

Something to Try

Choose one thing you have been asking for.

Complete these sentences:

If this arrived tomorrow, the part of me that would feel most stretched is…

To receive it and allow it to remain, I would need to practise…

One way I can begin building that capacity now is…

Then take one small action that reflects the life you are preparing to hold.

Protect your time, practice receiving, prioritise your work or strengthen your boundaries.

What you are doing is make yourself more available to receive.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

Hello Reader, Today's quote really is my philsophy for life, and how I have lived my life for many years. Even to the point where many around me think that the deepest wisdom has come from my biggest moments, but in actual fact it's in the ordinary moments where I have learnt the most. We are taught to look for life-changing...

Hello Reader, This week I have been thinking a lot about the Book, Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert writes about ideas as living energies that arrive looking for someone willing to bring them into the world. If we do not respond, she suggests they may eventually move on and find another person to carry them. I have always...
