Mentor Notes #137 -Before It Happens, You Become It

Mentor Note #137

Mentor Note:

"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage" - Anaïs Nin

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

I’ve been noticing something in myself lately… the way my days don’t feel loud, but they feel full.

There’s a rhythm happening behind the scenes, rehearsals, planning, endless communication and messages and small choices that no one really sees.

Like what am I going to wear at 49, to my next festival performance in London. Yes I know, I have decisions to make.

I’ve realised something:

This part matters just as much as any big show or moment.

There’s a part of the journey no one really talks about especially the life of a performer. There is so much pre planning and preparation. Mentally and physically.

For me right now it also involves, processing.. moments, feelings, memories, trauma ( yes Bardot had them) it's the processing that comes with going back, into an old job with old peers, but with new mindset and energy. And.. ah hello, I'm 49 stepping back on stage in 6 weeks time and I'm so not ready.

But for me it's not just about the end performance, it's not the travel (ok I am excited about this part.) It's not the big moment everyone sees.

It’s this part - the quiet preparation.

The early mornings and the endless thoughts.
The emotional regulation.
The discipline when no one is watching

This is where your life actually begins to expand.

Not when the opportunity arrives, but when you decide to become the person who can hold it.

And like this week's quote you need your courage will dictate how much your shrink or expand.

Courage isn’t always loud, sometimes it looks like consistency or choosing not to spiral, and sometimes it looks like staying when it would be easier to disconnect.

Right now, you might not see the full picture of where you’re going or what you want to achieve. But what matters is this:

Are you becoming the person who can meet it when it arrives?

The Takeaway

Expansion doesn’t start when your life changes.
It starts when you do.

Something to Try

This week ask yourself:

  • What version of me is required for the next level of my life?
  • Where am I already being her?
  • Where am I still holding back?

Then choose one small behaviour today that aligns with that version of you.

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

Mentor Note #146 Mentor Note: "The longer I live, the less interested I am in becoming someone new and the more interested I am in being fully myself." - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, I turned 50 yesterday, crazy, I saw my card and thought, wow, I feel like I’m younger. It’s like the soul has an age because I always feel like I’m in my 20-30’s. Even saying I turned 50 feels a little surreal, not because of the number itself, but because of what I thought this age might feel...

Mentor Note #145 Mentor Note: The things we remember most are rarely the things we planned. They're the people who made us feel at home. — Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, By the time you read this, I've traded beautiful villas, bustling cities, and some of Europe's most breathtaking destinations for my dad's more small town village in Greece. And to be completely honest... It has been a bit of a shock to the system. After weeks of travelling through London, Paris, Sicily and...

Mentor Note #144 Mentor Note: It’s not superficial to want beauty - it’s spiritual to honour what makes you feel alive. - Inspired by Sonia Choquette Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, I’ve been to London, Paris and now Sicily and I’ve noticed something shift in me the moment I arrived in Paris. It’s not something dramatic or obvious, but more of a softening. Like my system finally had permission to slow down in a way I didn’t realise it was waiting for. And I think that’s what I love about places...
