Mentor Note:
Your inner world has changed faster than your outer life. That is why everything suddenly feels so uncomfortable. - Sally Polihronas
Lets Dive in...
Hello Reader,
Hello Sally,
I cannot believe we are already in October. This year feels as though it has flown by.
There has been so much talk about the Year of the Horse, every new moon, full moon and astrological shift. So many people seem to be waiting for the change; the big energetic shift that will finally transform your current circumstances.......
It got me thinking about something I have written about before, and today’s quote sums it up perfectly.
We spend so much time reaching and striving for what we want.
It might begin as a curious thought and over time, the dream, vision or goal starts to take shape.
But unlike years ago, that dream is now being curated every day, often without you even realising it.
You scroll past someone’s home, business, body, relationship, holiday or version of success. Slowly, those images begin to infiltrate your thinking.
Before you know it, the dream has become bigger, shinier and much further away from where it began.
There is nothing wrong with allowing a dream to develop into something more.
But it is worth asking whether the dream is still coming from you, or whether it has been shaped by somebody else’s ideas, values, desires, vision or even their fears.
Because when you inherit someone else’s dream, you can also inherit the limitations attached to it.
What is meant for another person is not necessarily what is meant for you.
And what if you are destined for something different, or even something greater, but your everyday feed is keeping your imagination contained inside what you have already seen?
So many people are comparing their lives with others without considering that you are all living through different seasons. You began in different places, have different responsibilities and are here to create different lives.
Trying to build a life that looks good from the outside will not necessarily create a life that sets your soul on fire.
I remember a time when I was making really good money after years of being a struggling artist.
I had the job, the new car and the money to spend. I vividly remember people telling me how well I was doing.
From the outside, it looked like success.
But I also remember thinking, Wow, I can honestly say that I am not that happy.
I had the material evidence that life was going well, but material wealth had never been how I measured my life.
For me, success had always been found in the creativity, joy and alignment I felt in what I was doing.
I had always followed what I loved, the thing no one could stop me from doing.
It had never been about money or fame.
And somewhere along the way, I had built a version of success that made sense to everyone else but did not feel completely like me.
That experience taught me that you can admire a life you would not actually enjoy living.
You can achieve something impressive and still feel disconnected from yourself within it.
And you can spend years reaching for a dream before stopping to ask whether it is a life you truly want, or simply one you have repeatedly been shown.
This does not mean making your dreams smaller.
It means making them more your own.
It means turning down the noise long enough to hear what still calls to you when no one else is showing you what to want.
Because your life is not meant to be a copy of someone else’s vision.
It is meant to feel recognisable to you.
The Takeaway
Social media does not only influence what you buy. It can quietly influence what you dream about.
Let your desires expand, but make sure they are growing from your values and not from comparison, pressure or somebody else’s definition of success.
The goal is not simply to create a life that looks good.
It is to create one that feels like yours.
Something to Try
Think about one dream or goal you are currently pursuing and ask:
Where did this desire begin?
Would I still want it if no one else ever saw it?
Does imagining this life make me feel expanded, or does it make me feel behind?
What did I want before the world began showing me what I should want?
Then take one small step away from outside influence.
Mute an account that regularly makes you question your life. Spend an hour without consuming anyone else’s ideas.
Write down what a meaningful life looks and feels like to you, without considering whether it would impress anybody else.
Your dream does not need to resemble anyone else’s to be worthy of becoming real.
I appreciate you!
Until next week,
Much love,
Sally xx
