Mentor Note:
“Soulful reinvention is not about returning to who you were. It is about creating from who you are now.” - Sally Polihronas
Lets Dive in...
Hello Reader,
Last week I wrote about change beginning from where you are.
And, I just couldn't stop thinking about it, its kept showing up and It opened up conversations with several people who, in very different ways, are moving through their own season of reinvention.
Do you notice that too?
You become focused on an idea and suddenly it begins appearing everywhere - in conversations, books, podcasts and moments you might previously have overlooked.
Don't worry you are not being stalked but everyone, well except your phone. 😂
This is often associated with the Reticular Activating System, or RAS - the filtering system in the brain that helps you notice what has become relevant to you.
The world may not have suddenly changed, your attention has.
And this week, everywhere I looked, I saw reinvention.
The young influencer trying to understand her brand and business now that she is a mother and her life and values have changed.
The business owner who has reached a plateau and knows the strategies that built the business may not be the ones that take it forward.
The mother returning to work, trying to make sense of her ambition alongside the person she has become.
And then there is me, at fifty, moving through my own evolution.
At first, reinvention can make you reach backwards.
You return to what worked before, by revisiting an old role, idea, identity or version of success. You assume the answer must be hidden somewhere in what you used to do well.
I have done this too.
I have circled back through parts of my past, thinking perhaps the answer was to recreate what had already worked - to return to the performer, the producer, or another earlier version of me.
But going back did not give me the answer I was looking for.
It gave me something more valuable: contrast.
It helped me recognise that reinvention is not about becoming who you were before life changed you. Nor is it about discarding everything you have been and constructing someone completely new.
It is about meeting yourself as you are now.
You bring the experience, wisdom, skills and stories of every earlier version with you. But you allow the person you are today to decide how they will be expressed next.
That is the difference between reinvention driven by pressure and a soulful evolution.
One seems to ask, What should I do now?
But the soulful question is, Who am I now?
I have been exploring this through a simple framework I call the Four Cs of Soulful Reinvention:
Core. Courage. Creativity. Contribution.
It begins by returning to your core - who you are beneath the roles, expectations and identities you have collected.
It asks for the courage to release what no longer fits, even when it once worked or still looks successful from the outside.
It makes room for creativity, so you can explore what wants to emerge without needing the entire future mapped out.
And finally, it turns towards contribution: how the person you have become can create, serve, lead or offer something meaningful now.
These are not four boxes to tick or another formula for becoming more impressive.
They are a way of listening more closely to your own evolution.
That is the beautiful thing about reinvention, you are not starting again.
You are starting from experience.
You are gathering every version of yourself - the dreams, detours, achievements, disappointments and lessons, and allowing them to become something new in your hands.
The answer is not hidden in what you did before, it's is waiting in who you are now.
The Takeaway
A soulful reinvention is not a rejection of your past, it is an integration of it.
You do not have to return to an old version of yourself or rush to define a new one. You can take the wisdom of where you have been and allow who you are now to lead what comes next.
Something to Try
Sit with this question:
What am I trying to recreate because it worked before - and what might change if I allowed who I am now to lead?
Notice what comes up without pressuring yourself to create the complete plan.
Then choose one small decision that reflects the person you are today.
Your reinvention does not begin when you have worked out the whole future.
It begins when your choices start to reflect who you are now.
If you are in your own season of reinvention and would like to explore the Four Cs more deeply with me, reply to this email with REINVENTION.
I am creating something for this next chapter and I would love to know if it speaks to where you are.
I appreciate you!
Until next week,
Much love,
Sally xx
