Mentor Notes #139 - You Can’t Take Every Version of You Forward

Mentor Note #139

Mentor Note:

“What got you here will not take you there.” – Marshall Goldsmith

Lets Dive in...

Hello Reader,

I’ve been in full popstar mode this past week, rehearsing with Bardot for London, and I had a moment in rehearsals that really stayed with me. So I wanted to share it with you.

Nothing dramatic happened, it’s okay, lol.

But something felt different, actually to be honest, everything has felt different.

There was a time, not that long ago, where a week like that would have completely thrown me. If I hadn’t worked out, if I got sick, or if my voice wasn’t where I wanted it to be, I would have panicked. I would have overthought everything, questioned myself, and tried to control whatever I could.

But this time, something shifted.

There was a steadiness in me that I didn’t have to force. A quiet knowing that even if things weren’t perfect, I could still move forward.

And it made me realise something I hadn’t quite put words to before.

There’s a quiet grief that comes with growth.

No one really prepares you for that.

Because growth isn’t just about becoming more. It’s about letting go.

Letting go of the patterns, the reactions, and the identities that once protected you. And the truth is, they did their job, they helped you survive and they helped you build.

But they’re not designed to take you where you’re going next.

And this is where I see so many creatives get stuck, because letting go doesn’t always feel like expansion. Sometimes it feels like loss.

Right now, as I prepare to step into this next chapter, I can feel what’s no longer coming with me. And instead of resisting it, I’m learning to honour it.

Because every version of you had a purpose.

But not every version of you is meant to stay.

The Takeaway

Growth requires release just as much as it requires effort.

Something to Try

This Week:

Write down:

  • A version of you you’re outgrowing
  • A pattern you’re ready to release

Then ask:
What would my life look like if I trusted myself enough to let this go?

I appreciate you!

Until next week,

Much love,

Sally xx

Mentor Note #141 Mentor Note: "The deepest growth often happens before there is any evidence to show for it." – Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, This time next week, I’ll be on a plane to London. It feels both surreal and exciting. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been rehearsing, preparing, packing, and trying to tie up all the loose ends before I leave. On the outside, it probably looks like a lot of practical planning. But underneath it all, something quieter has been unfolding....

Mentor Note #140 Mentor Note: "Uncertainty is often the feeling of expansion before clarity arrives." - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, I've been thinking a lot about change lately and that there’s a moment before everything changes. It’s not loud and it doesn’t arrive with certainty or a perfectly mapped-out plan. It usually feels uncomfortable. The brain is wired to keep you safe, and it tends to interpret anything unfamiliar as a potential threat. Even when you are moving...

Mentor Note #138 Mentor Note: "Clarity comes from engagement, not waiting." - Sally Polihronas Lets Dive in... Hello Reader, There’s a myth that not only keep creatives stuck, it keeps many people stuck. I’ll move when I feel ready.I’ll start when I have clarity.I’ll act when it all makes sense. But I’ve rarely found clarity arrives first, more often, clarity meets us on the path. In the doing. In the showing up.In the imperfect step taken before certainty. Right now, I’m living inside that...
